Community Engagement Coordinator
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services. Job Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for client and community member engagement at Regent Park Community Health Centre. The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead initiatives to strengthen programs and oversee service delivery planning, implementation and evaluation utilizing effective frameworks and mechanisms at the operational and governance levels.
The CEC will provide supervision and staff support, as well as leadership to community partners and volunteers engaged in the CE initiatives.

Responsibilities Include
- Oversee all aspects of the agency’s community engagement framework and lead in the planning, implementation and evaluation of initiatives utilizing trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and community development and engagement strategies
- Identify and work with RPCHC staff and key community groups and community members to develop or support strategies/initiatives to increase community involvement and engagement on program/service planning, governance and systemic issues affecting health and welfare of individuals and groups.
- Identify and provide resources and information to the community to generate awareness on relevant health issues.
- Work with community members to identify skills-based needs assessments and resources to support development and building of participatory and leadership capacity.
- Support the development and implementation of advocacy initiatives with individuals and groups on relevant health issues, as needed and under the direction of the Director.
- Identify opportunities for organizational and community partnerships and collaboration.
- Work with the Director to plan, organize and implement community/client advisory initiatives and groups and promote community engagement activities led by the groups, and:
- Ensure regular meetings of the community/client advisory groups
- Identify priority action items and ensure follow up on action items
- Conduct regular outreach and community engagement activities to engage residents in the ongoing development of a Community Engagement framework to achieve RPCHC’s strategic priority of strengthening community
- Coordinate and work with other community groups/community-based agencies to increase community access to the determinants of health and meaningful roles of engagement;
- Collaborate across programs with staff and community to promote the organization’s services and resources.
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring and orientation and supervision of program staff, student placement workers and volunteers.
- Ensure that staff, students, and volunteers receive regular supervision and adequate, ongoing training and education.
- Oversee individual performance management on regular basis including coaching, mentoring, goal setting and progressive discipline in accordance to CA.
- Schedule and assign tasks and ensure that the workload is distributed amongst the staff on the team.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a leadership capacity on community development and engagement projects with diverse marginalized and vulnerable populations; a keen understanding of and sensitivity to the health issues of a diverse community
- Post-secondary education in social work, health promotion, social justice, community development and/or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience training and supervising staff, peer leaders and community volunteers
- Demonstrated understanding and experience working from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive perspective implementing community development and engagement frameworks
- Excellent program and people management skills, particularly working with clients, community residents and organizational partners
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, conflict resolution and crisis intervention
- Strong curriculum development skills appropriate to diverse audiences and community members in small groups and one on one settings
- Experience with needs assessment tools, research collection, monitoring and evaluation analysis.
- Experience with budget reporting and managing donor relationship (i.e. Ontario Health, Trillium, Ministry of Health, etc.).
- Experience supporting the development of grant and funding applications
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Forms, PowerPoint) and SharePoint for communication.
- Interest, knowledge and appreciation for the Regent Park area and understanding of the issues affecting the community.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with client/community and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- A passionate and genuine commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace culture at RPCHC.
