We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and east downtown area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, housing assistance, harm reduction and homeless programs, Pathways to Education for high school students, infant and child development programs, parenting education and family advocacy.

Job Summary

The Pathways Receptionist contributes to the effective operations of the Pathways to Education Program, Regent Park Community Health Centre by interacting with staff and program participants to provide and process information in response to inquiries, concerns and requests about the Pathways to Education Program. The Receptionist is responsible for greeting visitors and program participants at the front desk, answering the phone, and providing clerical and administrative support functions for the Program Coordinators. This is a bargaining unit position with OPSEU Local 5115.

This is a full-time permanent position. 


$19.80 – $23.84 per hour


35 hours per week

Responsibilities Include

Perform Customer Service Support Duties.

  • Communicate with Program users (students, parents, volunteers,) and respond to inquiries, answer phone, and direct calls as necessary
  • Inform Pathways staff of student, parent, volunteer, and other visitor arrivals
  • Direct customer inquiries to appropriate staff
  • Assist coordinators with maintaining staff schedules
  • Help solve problems that affect the service, efficiency, and productivity of the front desk

Perform clerical and administrative duties

  • Supporting client registration process; assisting with the inputting of student and parent information into PASS
  • Processing information by sorting and distributing incoming mail/parcels, preparing mail/parcels going out;
  • Collecting mail, faxes, documents, etc. from (RPCHC) and distributing documents to that site as needed
  • Typing and photocopying as required; including preparing materials for meetings or presentations, as needed
  • Attending meetings and taking minutes as required

Prepare, maintain, update, retrieve, track and file manually and electronically.

  • Ensuring student files are returned to the central files system and are filed correctly and in a timely manner.

Schedule rooms and resource bookings and ensure set up of rooms.

  • Preparing rooms and meeting needs, as required, including e.g. materials and/or refreshments, arranging needed audio-visual equipment, etc.
  • Scheduling meeting rooms and informing staff; maintaining a list of space usage
  • Contacting students, parents, members of various committees, etc. to schedule and/or follow-up from meetings.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Two to five years clerical office experience; preferably in an educational, health or community setting.
  • Experience in office procedures, filing systems (both paper and electronic), telephone operations and switchboard techniques.
  • Understanding of issues faced by youth in the Pathways to Education Program and approaches used by the program to support youth to succeed.
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, database and spreadsheets programs and e-mail
  • Familiarity with PASS (Pathways Academic Student System) Database and DocuSign is an asset
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
  • Understanding of Anti-oppression principles
  • Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families living within the Regent and Moss Park communities
  • Must be fully vaccinated for the safety of clients and staff
