Youth Engagement Peer Mentor
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services. Job Summary
The Youth Engagement Project (YEP) is a leadership and community engagement initiative for youth living in the Regent Park, Moss Park and neighbourhoods in Toronto’s downtown east. YEP will provide a team of youth with meaningful opportunities to co-design and deliver activities for their peers to develop and enhance a range of leadership and life skills, increase knowledge of community resources and supports, gain positive peer connections and inform the development of Regent Park Community Health Centre’s youth engagement strategy.
Full-time Contract Position – 35 hours per week, for 8 weeks
Hourly Rate: $19.32 per hour plus 4% vacation

Responsibilities Include
- Active collaboration and participation in project development, planning, implementation and evaluation with team members
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of participant workshops, activities and outings
- Assist in providing supervision and positive role modelling for youth participants and project volunteers on and off site
- Assist in maintaining cooperative team interaction and collaborative decision-making processes
- Assist in the preparation of project space and the maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of required files and records (client and project statistics, work plans etc.)
- Attend and actively participate in staff training, team meetings and project and team evaluations
- Assist with the development and distribution of program promotional and outreach materials – physical and digital; Assist in the development and maintenance of content for project’s online and social media platforms
- Knowledge and experience with online tools including social media (i.e. Zoom, Google hangouts, Facebook Live, Instagram, Tik-Tok, Slack, etc.)
- Set a good example for YEA! Students by being supportive, conscientious, energetic, enthusiastic, and a team player
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Between 15 – 29 years of age at the start of employment
- Work or volunteer experience planning and facilitating activities for diverse youth in a community-based setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective engagement practices related to youth and understanding issues they face
- Experience or training/education in youth development, recreation, arts and culture, athletics
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and across teams and independently;
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Must possess great communication skills (Written and Orally), and have the ability to think outside the box, encourage and motivate other youth
- Good understanding of social media, and common software, platforms and apps
- Living in or familiarity with the community (Regent Park, Moss Park, St. James Town, Rivertown) and community programs and services for youth
- This position may require occasional evening and weekend work throughout the program period; the incumbent must be available in order to take on this role
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
- Commitment to equity, anti-oppression and inclusive program delivery
- Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
- Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families in the Regent and Moss Park communities.
- Ability to speak other languages an asset, including Bengali, Arabic, Amharic, Somali or French
- Must have full COVID-19 vaccination for the protection of clients and staff
