Youth Engagement Project Lead
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services. Job Summary
The Youth Engagement Project (YEP) is a leadership and community engagement initiative for youth living in the Regent Park, Moss Park and neighbourhoods in Toronto’s downtown east. YEP will provide a team of youth with meaningful opportunities to co-design and deliver activities for their peers to develop and enhance a range of leadership and life skills, increase knowledge of community resources and supports, gain positive peer connections and inform the development of Regent Park Community Health Centre’s youth engagement strategy.
Full-time Contract Position – 35 hours per week, for 9 weeks
Hourly Rate: $23.42 per hour plus 4% vacation

Responsibilities Include
- Assists in the development, design, planning and implementation of all aspects of the project’s activities
- Delivers project activities, with YEP Peer Mentors, using anti-oppression framework and respecting equity, diversity and inclusion
- Assists in orientation, training and support to YEP Peer Mentors
- Supports the coaching and mentoring of project team
- Provides supervision and direction to age specific groups of youth and volunteers on and off site
- Supports the development of project, team, and participant evaluations
- Assist with report writing and evaluation using defined metrics per the funder requirements
- Maintains attendance records and other stats of the program progress using Excel and other equivalent software
- Maintain electronic records, emails, and documents in organization’s shared drive, including Google drive, forms, videos, and other web-based design applications
- Promotes the Summer Youth Engagement Project and assists with creation of posters/brochures using Canva, Google, and/or other web-based applications as required
- Outreach to community organizations, residents, TCHC, schools, and other stakeholders as needed to connect them to relevant YEP activities and events
- Report back to families on our progress and develop meaningful focus groups
- Liaise with partners on a regular basis to ensure successful relationship building and project’s connections to external stakeholders
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Between 15 – 29 years of age at the start of employment
- Minimum 2 years of postsecondary education in Child and Youth Care, Community or Social Work, Education, Recreation, Arts Education or related field
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience with program planning, implementation, evaluation and the provision of information and referrals for culturally diverse young people 13 – 24 years of age in a community-based setting
- Demonstrated experience providing leadership, direction and support to youth staff, participants and program volunteers
- Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, youth development and engagement strategies/principles
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with at-risk youth facing multiple barriers, preferably from Regent Park, Moss Park or other similar neighbourhoods in Toronto’s downtown east
- Technology skills: the incumbent must be able to demonstrate working experience with most of the following software, platforms or apps:
- Canva, Adobe, Illustrator, Google design/publishing software
- Design of graphics, videos and audio for posting on social media platforms and website
- Zoom or equivalent telecommunication tools
- Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, and other social media tools
- Excel and comparable spreadsheet functions for data configuration
- Other new emerging software/platforms as required
- Strong communication and facilitation skills and written English (for report writing purposes)
- This position may require occasional evening and weekend work throughout the program period; the incumbent must be available in order to take on this role
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
- Commitment to equity, anti-oppression and inclusive program delivery
- Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
- Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families in the Regent and Moss Park communities.
- Ability to speak other languages an asset, including Bengali, Arabic, Amharic, Somali or French
- Must have full COVID-19 vaccination for the protection of clients and staff
